Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, is the 2nd season of Magi. A fantasy comedy adventure taking place in a middle-age setting. It begins with a brief glimpse of the future as a war has escalated and Aladdin is forced to show his magical strength. Cut back to everyone celebrating in Sinbad’s country from the results in the finale of the 1st season. Alibaba has excepted his responsibilities to grow and become a great king, Aladdin realizes that his destiny as a Magi is to lead him there and Morgiana has dreams to finally visit her homeland. The trio each go off on a journey of their own paths to grow and become stronger and realize their dreams. All promising to meet again in the future, Morgiana departs for the Dark Continent, Alibaba leaves to train with the Yambala Gladiators, and Aladdin enrolls in an academy to hone his magical abilities. The continuing threat of the Kou Empire forces a reunion for Alibaba and Aladdin one year later.
The first episode again quickly sets up the premise of the season. With more focus on the politics and mystery involved with the magic in the world. As each of the trio are on their personal journeys they begin to learn not everything is at it seems in their world. After the first couple episodes, there are a few that follow that are a bit like filler episodes, but overall aren’t too bad as they show the characters have grown since the finale in the previous arc.
The character development, comedy, and artwork which overall made the 1st season great to watch is back again. The season is paced out even enough to keep the story interesting. The change in story arc was nice as the tone of the series felt a bit more serious.
Aside from the few filler episodes there aren’t many negatives to say that I haven’t already stated in my review of the 1st season. In terms of quality, it’s on par with the 1st season and enjoyed it just as much. It’s unfortunate the Magi series is one of those anime that is destined to not be finished, though the manga has finished if you want to see the ending.
