It’s finally open season on taking down a bunch of overpowered celebrities that acted untouchable. Starting with Harvey Weinstein in early October. The New York Times published a detailed story with numerous accounts of women and their sexual harassment by one of the most powerful movie producers. Weinstein dodged numerous accusers through eight settlements, but couldn’t stop the onslaught of women that finally came forward to stop his perversion.
Not that being relevant mattered to people like James Toback. The director and screenwriter who hasn’t really done shit since 1991 got outed for being a creepy turd who would lure women to hotel rooms disguised as interviews or auditions. These meetings quickly became sexual in nature. These accounts told in a piece from the Los Angeles Times.
Even Ben Affleck made a bungle of the situation by overstepping his fake sincerity as one of the first to come out and denounce Weinstein’s behavior. Then being put in his place by Hilarie Burton after old videos surfaced of Affleck groping her on MTV’s Total Request Live. Affleck later responded on his twitter, “I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton and I sincerely apologize.” Actress Rose McGowan, took the fight to the actor as well calling BS on his unawareness to Weinstein’s activities to which Affleck responded by not responding.
The dismembering of these powerful men seems to be a weekly event. There are other accusations coming forward against others outside of Hollywood as this began in October. The list I imagine will keep growing sadly but on a positive note justice is finally being brought to those that were voiceless in an industry that needs cleaning up.
